Digital SAT Format

The Digital SAT, now the standard format since Spring 2024, brings some substantial changes to timing, structure, adaptive modules, and scoring. Here’s what every test prep student needs to know:

Format & Timing

The exam is condensed to 2 hours and 14 minutes, excluding a 10-minute break. It consists of:

Adaptive Testing

• Each section has two equal-length modules.
• Module 2 difficulty depends on how well you perform in Module 1.

• The decision is based on Item Response Theory (IRT), factoring in both correctness and difficulty

Section Breakdown

Reading & Writing

• 4 domains:
  • Information & Ideas (≈26%)
  • Craft & Structure (≈28%)
  • Expression of Ideas (≈20%)
  • Standard English Conventions (≈26%)
• Questions are grouped and ordered by difficulty to streamline transitions

Math

• Two modules of 22 questions each.
• Calculator usage is allowed throughout.
• Compared to paper SAT, math items are more concise.

Scoring & No Penalty for Guessing

• Each section scores from 200 to 800, creating a 400–1600 total range
• No wrong-answer penalty — guessing is always smart
